gegenüber works in Seoul, in leather, with an eye on the material rather than the season. The studio describes the intent plainly: avant-garde leather goods that celebrate the material's innate characteristics and its subtle, evolving beauty, cut with architectural precision, meant to deepen with time.

What that means in the hand is a refusal to hide the hide. A scratch, a wrinkle, an open pore, a difference of grain across one panel: these are the record of an animal and a bench, not faults to be sanded out, and the studio says so in its own terms before you buy. Colour shifts as the piece is carried. The patina is not an accident tolerated; it is the finish arriving late.

The forms are few and repeated: bags worn at the waist, across the body, over the shoulder, and on the back, in three sizes, with a handful of small goods beside them. Some pieces are ready to leave the moment they are ordered; others begin at the bench when you ask for them and take two to three weeks. Either way, the work is made by hand, one bench, in numbers small enough that the maker knows each piece.
